In the aftermath of WWII the followers of Zanella in Fiume/Rijeka were persecuted by the communist regime of Tito and some of them were put to death. Recently the Municipality of Rijeka has rejected a proposal to give the name of Riccardo Zanella to a square.--Deguef (talk) 17:26, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In English and in French Wikipedia Zanella is classified among Italian politicians, but in the Croat Wikipedia he is classified among Croatian politicians. He belonged to Italian ethnic group, but he was first an Hungarian citizen and then a citizen of the city-state of Fiume, never a Croatian citizen. --Deguef (talk) 19:03, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
