"Classy 101" is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Feid and Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko from Feid's second extended play (EP), Ferxxocalipsis (2023). Salomón Villada (Feid), Miko, Wain, Bonaroti, Caleb Calloway, Mauro and Julia Lewis wrote the song, and the last three produced it. After attracting the attention of several artists by sharing the stage, collaborating with them, and going viral on TikTok, Miko initially composed the song in Los Angeles until she surprisingly met Villada there. Following the release of "Remix Exclusivo", Villada's first single of 2023, he released the song as a single on 31 March through Universal Music Latino with the premiere of its music video at Ferxxo Nitro Jam Tour show in Lima, Peru. It was included in Ferxxocalipsis on December 1 after the release of his sixth studio album, Mor, No Le Temas a la Oscuridad.

"Classy 101" has been described as a reggaeton with a minimalist sound and an "edgy perreo fusion" that talks about a carnal desire linked to lust. Music journalists praised the song for its vocals and overall sound. The song peaked at the top 10 in twelve countries and it was Miko's first entry and Villada's third on the Billboard Hot 100. A music video for the song premiered alongside its release. Directed by Deathofgian, it portrays a couple in love riding a motorcycle and shows Miko and Villada singing along the song in different scenarios. It won a Los 40 Music Award, a Lo Nuestro Award and two Latin American Music Awards. The song was included on the set list of Miko and Villada's respective headlining concert tours, and was performed at the Los 40 Music Awards and at several music festivals.

Background[edit]

Young Miko collaborated for the first time with Caleb Calloway on "105 Freestyle".[1] During 2022 and 2023, Miko began to attract the attention of many artists, so she shared the stage with Bad Bunny with Villano Antillano at a music festival, and collaborated with several of them, including Arcángel ("Kilimanjaro") and Yandel ("Cuando Te Toca").[2][3][4] She also released her first studio album, Trap Kitty. It included the songs "Riri" and "Lisa", which went viral through TikTok.[3][4] In an interview with El Hormiguero, Miko stated that she initially composed "Classy 101" while she was in Los Angeles, where she met Salomón Villada (Feid).[5] She clarified that she had not composed for him nor had there been any contact with him before and that the process "came out super-natural", and added that "it was very easy to flow with him."[5]

During Villada's concert tour, Ferxxo Nitro Jam Tour, he announced and released "Remix Exclusivo" on March 17, 2023 through Universal Music Latino, being his first single of the year.[6][7][8] Two weeks later, after Villada's concert in Lima, Peru, part of Ferxxo Nitro Jam Tour, the song was released on March 31 as a single through Universal Latino.[9][10] On August 24 of the same year, he announced on Instagram his sixth studio album, Mor, No Le Temas a la Oscuridad, preceded by their singles released after "Classy 101" ("Niña Bonita",[11] "Vente Conmigo",[12] "Ferxxo 151"[13] and "Bubalu"[14]), and released it later on September 29.[15] On November 29, he announced his second EP, Ferxxocalipsis, as a surprise release and sharing that "I want you to enjoy it as it is, during Ferxxo's favorite month!! I'm thankful to everyone that was a part of this, Colombia has so much to show and this is just another piece of that!!!" [sic];[16][15] he also revealed its track listing, where the song is placed at number ten.[17][18]

Composition and reception[edit]

According to the liner notes of Ferxxocalipsis, Villada, Miko, Caleb Calloway, Mauro, Julia Lewis, Wain and Bonaroti wrote the song, while Calloway, Mauro and Lewis were also in charge of its production.[19] It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Wain with EARCANDY for mixing at 24k Mastering in Los Angeles.[19] Lyrically, SDP Noticias' Alexa Strada said that "[Classy 101] talks about a carnal desire [...] it is implied that she wants to have an encounter with this person who incites her to physical enjoyment [...] this provocative figure is spoken of as a person who goes beyond the romantic and goes straight to staring and flirting."[20] Los 40's Miguel Ángel Bargueño named the song as "a reggaeton with a minimalist sound and relentless rhythm that invites you to twerk."[21] "Classy 101" was included on Billboard's list of the best Latin songs of 2023 so far, ranking it at number eight and writing that "the hard-hitting, edgy perreo fusion laces Feid's distinct vocals and Miko's dulcet range for a song about a girl who's so fine that it's impossible to ghost her."[22] Los Angeles Times also included the song in their year-end list of the 23 Best Latin music songs of 2023 at number 20, describing its chorus as "simply, hilariously, kind of aspirational."[23]

US.[38] The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the single 19× Platinum, which denotes 1.14 million units based on sales and track-equivalent on-demand streams according to Latin criteria.[40] In Spain, it peaked at number six in the national chart and received a 5x Platinum certification from the Productores de Música de España (PROMUSICAE).[41] In Mexico, it peaked at number 17 in Mexico Songs chart and received a platinum certification from the Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (AMPROFON).[42][43]

Music video[edit]

At Ferxxo Nitro Jam Tour show in Lima, Peru on March 30, 2023, Villada premiered the music video for "Classy 101";[9] the video, directed by Deathofgian, was released via YouTube at the same day with the single release simultaneously.[44][45][46] It has been described as a video in which speed, motorcycles, cars, racing, adrenaline and sensuality star.[44][45] The video shows Villada and Miko in different scenarios. Miko is found stroking a woman's hair in a room and in a bar with several women dancing and drinking around her; Villada is found inside a car and inside a room with a woman lying in bed; the two are shown around a car and inside a hotel. In all the scenes Villada and Miko sing along the song. It also portrays a couple in love who travels on a motorcycle throughout the video.

Live performances and usage[edit]

In 2023, "Classy 101" was on the set list of Miko's first headlining concert tour, the Trap Kitty World Tour, on multiple occasions.[a] At the 18th Los 40 Music Awards, Villada and Miko performed the song live together, where he also performed "Bubalu".[54][55] The song was performed by Miko on her show at the Coca-Cola Flow Fest.[56] In 2024, it was on the setlist of Villada's shows at the Lollapalooza Chile, Lollapalooza Argentina and Festival Estéreo Picnic.[57][58][59] Miko performed it at her shows in Mexico (Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City).[60][61] She performed it later at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 12.[62] The song was included on the set list of Villada's headlining concert tour, the Ferxxocalipsis World Tour (2024).[63] Its chorus was sampled by Nickzzy's "Chula".[64]
