Battle of Mangal deletion review[edit]

Hi Doczilla, you closed the Battle of Mangal nomination, and I was hoping to discuss it here with you. You were primarily concerned about my edit here where I removed a large amount of content, and stated that it may have unduly altered voters' evaluation of the article; I understand that I shouldn't have significantly removed content/sources while an AFD was under progress (I wasn't aware at that time), but to be fair, my revision of the page only stood for a little more than one day, and no votes had transpired during that time, so for 20 out of 21 days of the AFD, the article was in its pre nomination version.

Since AFDs are based on merit and not enumerating votes, I believe the "Delete" votes make a stronger argument than the "Keep" ones, both of which concede that there is only one "reliable source" (iirc articles are supposed to have at the very least two RS with significant coverage); the source in question, Autar Singh Sandhu's General Hari Singh Nalwa, however is undoubtedly not reliable, it was deprecated by an admin in the RSN, was published in 1935 (we are told to generally avoid sources written before 1947-[1]), and there is zero information available about the author such as his educational background and his bibliography, there are zero scholarly reviews of his work, and that book appears to be the only one that can be traced to him. It seems abundantly clear to me that deletion was warranted if that was the strongest source in the article.

Apologies if this isn't the correct way to do this, I'm not familiar with Deletion review at all, and I saw that the Wiki page asks a potential filer to discuss any reservations with the closer first. Southasianhistorian8 (talk) 09:56, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
